Spam Jam

WHAT: A free, all-levels sketch comedy jam hosted by Potential Spam

WHERE: Teller Productions Workshop (486 Park Ave SE Atlanta, GA)

WHEN: 1st Monday of every month, Sign ups open at 7:30pm, Jam 8-10pm

How does it work?

  1. Before you jam: Write ONE sketch (MUST include title page with character list, max 5 pages excluding title page) or come as a performer or audience member! Writers and performers should bring a charged device to read digital copies of scripts.

  2. When you arrive: If you wrote, sign up for a slot (max 10 sketches per night) and upload your sketch to the shared folder. If you’re there to perform, grab a number so we can make sure everyone gets a turn reading!

  3. When it’s your turn: Jam hosts will call up performers to read your sketch and you’ll get some punch ups and ideas from jam hosts and fellow jammers.

  4. When it’s not your turn: Jump up to read sketches from other jammers.

FAQ

  • How much does it cost?

    • It’s free! But a $5-7 donation to Teller Productions goes a long way to making this sustainable.

  • How should I format my sketch?

    • Please include the title, your name, and a character list (including the names of the characters with a VERY short description, for example “Mr. Shnicklefritz - the butler”) on the title page. Otherwise, no specific formatting is necessary, but check out Screenplay Template (WriterDuet) or Screenplay Formatter (Google Docs) for free templates.

  • Will I be able to explain, stage, or direct my sketch?

    • Nope! We do not have time for every writer to explain or to stop and start their sketches. If there is specific staging (e.g., Bruce and Nancy sit next to each other on the bus) that is necessary for your sketch, include it in the stage directions.

  • What if I don’t want notes?

    • No problem! Just let the jam host know when you sign up. You’ll still learn a lot from seeing your idea in action and hearing what gets laughs in front of an audience.

  • Can I record my sketch being read?

    • Please get the consent of the folks who are reading first. If it’s alright by them, it’s alright by us!

  • What happens to the folder of sketches after each jam?

    • We will delete all sketches uploaded to the folder immediately after the jam! Sketches are the property of the person who brought them in.
